strange behavior when selecting preferred plugins

I'm observing strange behavior when selecting preferred plugins via the drop-down menus...

Select a markdown editor from the drop-down menu -> the selection appears momentarily, but then reverts back to the previous value. Also, whenever a selection is made, the value of the other drop-down (e.g. find user) is also changed in a similar fashion.
