UX: Filters with Many Values

Filters w/many values - What do they look like when there are potentially many possible values? I had shared some Balsamiqs (attached), but Filip wanted to make his own designs. Keep in mind, for Patron groups, for example, some libraries have just 4 while others have 36. Is there a control that could work for both? Also, we talked about changing from the eye icon to a checkbox for clarity. Let's change that in the updated mocks.
