We have an example in mod-patron that might help here if adapted

Description

Purpose: Create API for checking whitelist so we don't need to maintain separate whitelist on frontend (as we are currently). This is a kind of tech debt.

Outstanding Decisions

Need to decide upon API design. I believe we should aim to create this as the first step in a pre-creation (or better name if people can suggest one) API that will eventually also use request policies.
